Triple award winner Nikola Jokic sustains a 'devastating' injury to his knee.
Thrice-crowned NBA MVP Nikola Jokic sustained a "heartbreaking" knee injury when the Denver Nuggets were defeated by a score of 147-123 to the Heat.
The star player was hurt late in the first half following an unintentional coming together with fellow Nugget Jones.
His teammate stepped on the foot of the MVP, and he promptly fell to the floor holding his leg.
The star, who is leading the league season in boards and assists, had 21 points and eight assists in the contest before incurring the injury.
He will have an MRI on the following day to assess the severity of the injury.
"Right away, Jokic realized there was a problem," stated Nuggets coach Adelman.
"This happens in professional sports. Whoever who gets hurt, that's gut-wrenching, particularly somebody as special as he is. We will know more on Tuesday."
"The team will adjust together. Clearly, currently, I'm more concerned about him as a person and the letdown of facing something like that."
