This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.

While perhaps not at the same level as pardoning holiday birds, but the county's top official experienced a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the onset of a current administration.

“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”

This ceremony, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The swine, donated by a local firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The trend became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the spirit of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and based in heritage that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”

Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
