Arsenal's manager feels assured that his side can continue to cope with injury setbacks following revealing that attacker Kai Havertz remains out for several more weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for Havertz

Havertz has been absent since August following knee surgery. Originally slated to be available at the start of this month, Arteta revealed the player encountered a problem when advancing his training and could not progress “the required stage.”

“We learned, and we were able to put together a squad that is much more reliable and has more options,” commented Arteta.

Selection Dilemma for Brentford Clash

This update leaves a tactical puzzle for Wednesday’s fixture at the Emirates against Brentford. The manager needs to decide between persisting with Mikel Merino, who scored playing out of position last weekend, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who came back off the bench in the latter stages. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus remains available following a lengthy absence.

Defensive Concerns Linger

Further fitness issues surround centre-back William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who sat out the weekend encounter. Consequently, recent arrivals Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to continue in the heart of the defence for the Premier League front-runners.

Arteta feels the significant outlay on squad depth ahead of this season has resulted in a more robust situation to handle such unavailability.

Squad Depth Vital for Premier League Pursuit

When asked if increased squad depth was benefiting their title quest, Arteta was emphatic. “Absolutely, as this campaign has been worse in the attacking line, and now the problems with the defence,” he noted.

“Our previous experiences taught us that we must deploy players in various roles, and they need to be prepared to fulfil different roles if we aim to challenge at the top. And the instance of Mikel is probably the prime illustration.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Frustrated Havertz

Commenting on the setback highlighted by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave additional context. “He was doing everything. He was unable to progress to the required step and now it’s looking like we have solved that issue.”

He shared his personal desire to see him return. “Everyone is eager to have him. Truly, Havertz is someone that, in my view, I value highly for the qualities he offers to the team, but his personality, his personality. I observe his frustration while sidelined.”

“His playing record is exceptional, he’s been always available, and I look forward to see him return around the team playing because I feel it’s going to be a significant uplift.”
