Iranian Forces State Attack on US Base in Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Military Operations.

Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and continuing assault targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any impact is unclear and the US has yet to issue a statement.

Airspace Engagements

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house American military installations - said they have shot down incoming projectiles in their air space.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That initial attack - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on sites associated with the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.

Regional Fallout

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military said it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates stated that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses dealt with the projectiles with notable success and shot down a series of missiles," it added.

The statement noted wreckage fell on a residential area in the capital, causing some material damage and the death of one civilian.

The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
