Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Table

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a exciting storyline including angels, demons, and sinister influences expanding in power within the urban setting.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of characters who will separate from the main group to begin their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are rare.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might look out of place, but the events of the third episode show why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the secret base, striking Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.

The traitor then cleared his debts and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each character has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a hostile environment.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the group reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The healer turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to Timmony in quest for the traitor.

What’s Next?

According to episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Questers and Strategists tables.

Audiences can look forward to learning which characters will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
